After almost three years in the making, Internet 101 is going national.

On February 5, 2007, the “A” Division-based team officially launched its cross-Canada tour with a National Capital Region media conference in Gatineau, Quebec.

With an interactive website as its anchor, Internet 101’s motto is “police and partners . . . working together to web-proof our communities”. The initiative aims to teach kids to safely navigate the digital highway – the Internet – just as police has been teaching kids for years how to navigate the streets of our cities.

A committee of police forces, led by the RCMP, created and maintains the website, a collection of safety tips, helpful presentations and links to help kids and parents surf safely.

“There’s never been a more important time than now to remind our youth that the Internet is a fascinating world, but one they need to explore with caution,” explains Insp. Louise Lafrance, project manager. “Internet 101 is a valuable crime prevention tool.”
